Endurance is all about stamina, strategy, and horsemanship.
It’s a competition against the clock where horse and rider cover long distances across the countryside.
But here’s the catch – it’s not just about being the fastest! The real goal is to cross the finish line with your pony still in good health and condition.
Endurance has its roots in history, when horses were relied upon for long-distance travel. Today, it has become a sport that tests not only your pony’s fitness but also your skills in pacing, planning, and caring for your horse during a ride.
In South Africa, the discipline is overseen by ERASA (Endurance Ride Association of South Africa), a member of the SAEF.
So, how does SANESA Endurance work?
The SANESA season runs from just after Fauresmith up until the next Fauresmith ride.
Riders don’t have separate qualifiers. Instead, you compete in normal ERASA endurance rides and then submit your results to SANESA.
SANESA collects this info and uses it to select the Provincial teams.
✨ Endurance is a true test of teamwork between pony and rider — proving that finishing well is more important than finishing first! ✨
