Q: What are wolf teeth?
A: Wolf teeth are small, pointed teeth that appear when the horse is between five months and a year old. They can occur in both genders and can be found in the top or bottom gums or even both.
For most ponies, wolf teeth aren’t an issue. However, they can interfere with the bit, or even become infected, which means they need to be removed. If you are concerned about your pony’s wolf teeth, ask your dentist to have a look.
Top tip: It’s important to have your pony’s teeth checked by a vet or qualified equine dentist at least once a year.
