DISCIPLINES OF SANESA: DRESSAGE

Did you know that dressage simply means ‘training’ or ‘preparation’?

It’s all about developing a horse so that he moves in balance, rhythm, and harmony with his rider.

In competitions today, horse and rider perform a set test in a 60m x 20m arena (or 40m x 20m for pony riders) marked with letters. Each movement is judged out of 10 (with some worth double marks!) and the total is given as a percentage.

🎯 The goal? A calm, supple, and confident performance that looks effortless and elegant.

Dressage is often called the art of equestrian sport, and it forms the foundation for every other riding discipline. 🌟

In South Africa, the discipline is overseen by Dressage South Africa (DSA), which is a member of the SAEF.
