Imagine doing gymnastics on a cantering horse – that’s equestrian vaulting! 🤸♀️🐴
It’s a unique sport where vaulters perform dynamic and static gymnastic moves to music on horseback, showing off balance, rhythm, suppleness, and trust with their horse.
Vaulting moves can include:
⭐ Artistic mounts and dismounts
⭐ Shoulder stands and handstands
⭐ Kneeling or standing exercises
⭐ Lifts and carries with another vaulter (in pairs!)
Vaulters are judged on their technique, form, difficulty, balance, security, and – most importantly – consideration for the horse. Today, the horse, lunger, and vaulter are seen as one competitive team, with all contributing to the final score.
At SANESA, you can try:
👤 Individual Vaulting – Compulsory and Freestyle tests (with only one minute to wow the judges in your freestyle!)
👫 Pas-de-Deux – A male and female vaulter performing a freestyle routine together.
🏋️ Vaulting on Barrels – A great way to prepare for competing on a horse.
In South Africa, vaulting is overseen by Vaulting South Africa (VASA), under the SAEF.
💬 Would YOU be brave enough to stand on a moving horse?
