DISCIPLINES OF SANESA: MOUNTED ARCHERY

Talk about combining skills! Mounted Archery is where speed, precision, and horsemanship meet the ancient art of shooting arrows on horseback.

Once used by warriors and hunters around the world, it’s now an exciting modern sport growing fast in South Africa.

At SANESA, riders can enter two styles:
⚡ The Raid – a speed class with six runs down a 90m track, hitting a variety of targets from all angles (front, side, and back shots). One arrow per target, with points for both accuracy AND speed.
🎯 The Tower – also six runs down a 90m track, but here you aim at one fixed tower target with three faces. Riders can shoot multiple arrows as they pass, from start to finish.

Mounted Archery is managed in South Africa by the Mounted Archery Association of South Africa (MAASA), under the SAEF.

💬 Do you think you’d have the balance and focus to hit the target at a gallop?
