Working Equitation (WE) began as a way to showcase the equestrian skills developed by riders who worked horses in the fields. Today, it’s an exciting sport that combines culture, technique, and fun, while teaching your horse to be a true partner in anything you do together.
💡 The obstacle course is more than just fun – it’s a brilliant training tool! Riders practice bending, leg yields, transitions, and side passes. At higher levels, you’ll even tackle flying changes around poles, with obstacles giving both horse and rider a visual reference for precision and timing.
✅ Any horse can take part – no specific breed or tack required. The focus is on partnership, willingness, and balance. As you progress, your horse develops confidence, collection, and responsiveness, while you refine your aids and harmony as a rider.
In SANESA, Working Equitation is overseen by the South African Working Equitation Association (ZAWE), and tests your partnership’s ability to navigate challenges with accuracy, rhythm, and style.
✨ If you and your pony love variety, precision, and a challenge, Working Equitation might be your perfect match!
