SANESA DISCIPLINES: EQUITATION

Equitation is all about good riding and the art of correct horsemanship. Unlike many other disciplines, it’s not your pony being judged, but you, the rider. Your position, balance, and effectiveness in the saddle are what count most.

💡 The best part? You don’t need a flashy jumper or a fancy dressage horse to shine in equitation. Any well-schooled horse or pony of any size or breed can take part and all that matters is your ability to ride them well.

Tests include flatwork and jumping phases, where judges reward riders who:
✅ Sit correctly and ride with feel
✅ Use effective aids to help their pony move in balance
✅ Show accuracy, rhythm, and harmony over fences

Equitation is about getting maximum effect with minimum visible effort. As you improve, so does your pony, making this discipline a fantastic foundation for future success in showjumping, dressage, eventing, and beyond.

Every competitor receives feedback from knowledgeable judges, so you’ll always leave with tips to help you grow.

The discipline of Equitation is overseen by Equitation South Africa (SAEQA) and is a member of the SAEF.

✨ If you love the idea of becoming a better, more effective rider (and helping your pony go better too), Equitation is the perfect discipline to start with!
