GROWTH RINGS

Sometimes you might notice little lines or ‘rings’ on your pony’s hooves. Don’t worry – they don’t always mean something bad!

Often, these rings appear because the grass has changed with the seasons, or because your pony has been working or playing on hard ground.

If rings are linked to laminitis, they usually only show up once your pony is already starting to get better. So if your pony is walking happily and doesn’t seem sore, there’s no need to panic.

The best thing you can do is make sure your pony has his feet trimmed regularly. This keeps his hooves healthy and gives your farrier the chance to check how things are going. Your farrier is the expert – and they’ll let you know if you need to worry.
