Q: Can ponies really sleep standing up?
A: Yes! Ponies are amazing at dozing while standing. Their legs have a special locking mechanism called the stay apparatus that helps them stay upright without falling over. It’s a clever trick that lets them rest while staying alert for danger – just like wild horses did.
But ponies still need to lie down for deep sleep (just like you need a comfy bed for proper rest). If your pony never lies down, it might mean he’s not feeling safe or comfy in his stable or paddock. A happy, healthy pony usually takes at least one short nap lying down each day.
